Area 44 sport climbing w/ Adrian and Cory = quirky fun!

Nuts and Raisins (5.7) - Lead ✅
I’m not against it (5.8) - Lead ✅
Blue du Jour (5.9) - Top Rope ❌ - did not redpoint- scarier/harder than expected lmao

It started raining shortly after 🥲

Peterskill June 1/2 trip

🧗🏻‍♀️Day 2: Set up on Floops (5.10b), Oops (5.10a) and Santa’s Escape (5.7) to start the day off. Nice little tree anchor practice. Ended the day on Exuberance (5.10a), Commencement (5.10c), Dead Battery (5.8+). It wasn’t too difficult to reposition Santa’s Escape’s anchor to set up for Exuberance and Commencement. Dead Battery included the need for a natural anchor around a boulder and an additional gear anchor (used a few cams and slings).

I would retry Oops again to get one clean go. Would try Exuberance instead of Commencement. Dead Battery is probably best set as a warmup instead at the end of the day.

Peterskill June 1/2 weekend with Erica, Logan, Dolly and Charlie!

🧗🏻‍♀️Day 1 we set up top rope on bolted anchors for Reach Around (5.8) and Crack-a-lack (5.10a). Rope got tangled when we dropped it in place 🤦🏻‍♀️Played around with some mock trad leading and placing some pro. Saw a huge Northern Black Racer. Late evening we attempted to find some boulders and struggled on the Diving Board (V3).

Note: Erica set up a directional for Crack-a-lack

Most beautiful weather at Birdsboro Quarry with fabulous company. I’m so excited that Erica showed this hidden gem to us and looking forward to climbing more soon ☺️

Best memories include :
🌟 someone complimenting the four of us as we walked down a hill saying we looked fabulous
🌟 chatting and giggling on the car ride and at the wall making silly jokes
🌟 having an open space for conversation that transcends climbing
🌟 climbing fun slabby routes
🌟 adventurous approach of water crossings and hauling us and all our stuff up a rope
🌟 so many climbing firsts for the ladies - including first outdoor sends!
🍀 random person offering us free food

Details:
Grand Central -> Breakneck Ridge Station
Hiked 11 miles
Cold Spring -> Grand Central

The metro north runs hourly and costs $15.50 one way. There are so many variations to the trails here. Breakneck scramble is a true scramble — I saw people with their dogs here but I don’t think it’s a good idea for dogs or children. The further I walked away from the trailheads, the less people I bumped into. Definitely would do this trail again! It was tiring but so much fun.

Johnston Canyon to Lower & Upper Fallls- ~ 5km hike. Would recommend microspikes.
It’s easy during the summer, definitely more slippery in the winter!

Kraft Mountain Loop : ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Such a fun little hike with some scrambling through rocks. Definitely would do this hike again. The parking lot is the same one as Kraft Boulders ☺️

📍 Black Warmup Boulder # 1 - lots of fun V0 - V2 variations

📍 Black Warmup Boulder # 2 - Nikola’s first topout on Black warm up!!!! - also a ton of great easy climbing

📍 Perk Up (V2) - need to figure out the first move… feels hard to throw with the right hand

📍 biggest highball in the area - super scary

Poker chips - V1 (Potato Chip boulder) - I got scared at the top out

The wave - V3 (need to figure out the transition to after the heel hook)

Monkey Bar (lots of variations of climbs to get back to)

Oompaloompa (V5) - v convinced this will go. Skin was ouchy at the end. But there’s a fun knee bar and some slapping rocks involved. Also not scary to fall off of!

Warm Up Boulder at Kraft Boulders in Calico Basin! Really great juggy holds for a warm up. Top out is also nice and easy with lots of feet.

The scariest part (but also became extremely fun) was shimmying down the crack after the top out.

This was my fave easy slab problem at pothole rock!

Nikola’s Intro to bouldering at Joshua Tree!

Illicit Sweetie Boulder is taller than it looks and the descent down the back looked unappealing so downclimbs happened instead. Info can be found on mountain project (bunch of V-easy to V0)

Pothole Rock is slopey and slabby and no hands funny (V-easy to V0+). Honestly V0 is pretty tricky here 🥲

The Turtle on a Friday afternoon in July (2023) was surprisingly not busy and the trees provided nice & cool shade. Sometimes climbing in Ontario can be fun ☺️

One of the most fun road trips we’ve done. Winter is the best time to explore the parks in Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. During this trip we visited Red Rock Canyon, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Arches National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, Grand Canyon National Park and Sedona! Lots of beautiful rocks to see and less people than the summer.. highly recommend! ☺️

Willow Lakes, Colorado with the hiking gals! An 18km backpacking trip becomes 32km when we can’t find overnight parking 🤪

Boulder Canyon - sport climbing with Charlie on September 10 2023. We played around with rope management. Also found some amazing slab to climb on!

I’m pretty sure we were at the bihedral area… but I can’t remember.

We climbed stuff in the Other Critters / Big Five/ Catslab area — all really safe and easy routes to lead. Great place to learn and practice!

Cathedral Ledge - Flash Foxy Trad Fest (September 29 - October 1 2023)

Sarah and I did a 2 day intro to trad course. We learned how to place cams, nuts, tricams. I learned about totems on this trip which are a new engineering innovation! We also practiced anchor building and mock lead/ trad placements.

Weather conditions - low of 3, high of 12, sunny

📌 Welcome Boulders - really nice boulder to warm up on first approach with a V1 traverse, east slab
📌 photo 2 - after the clearing there is a juggy flake that is also a good warm up. Beyond that there is a section of boulders that are V3 - V7 that can be worked on.
📌 photo 3 - V3 that I want to come back to work on. It’s near the interesting cool V4 cave climb & dyno problem
